DECONSTRUCT A SONG:  WHAT IS THE MESSAGE?

Select a song to deconstruct it’s meaning, play it numerous times, while reading and listening to it’s lyrics.  Once you’ve gained a deeper understanding of your selected song you must write 3 paragraphs, based on the 3 questions listed below.  Relate the songs meaning to the legacy you wish to leave for the freshmen.  Also, you should address the song’s importance to you, as an individual.  This written assignment will serve as content for one of the pages in your portfolio.

Create a word document including artist name, song, lyrics, album release date, and album art

3 PARAGRAPH WRITING ASSIGNMENT ON SELECTED SONG.

Paragraph 1
General overview of theme/message in the song and its importance to you personally.
Ex.
“As a young adult, I have fears and doubts at times when it comes to my future.  When these feelings come over me, I remind myself that, ‘anything is possible if you work hard.’”

Paragraph 2
Connect theme to song with specific points.  Must include at least two quotes from song lyrics (for instrumentals, must refer to specific times in composition, and describe content).  Also, students should include the artist’s interpretation of the theme, referring to the selected song.

Paragraph 3
Connect to TechBoston Academy.  Why is this theme important to address to the underclassmen and rising seniors?
