Biotechnology Students Visit City Lab…
TechBoston Academy Biotechnology Students went to BU Medical School City Lab on a field trip on Wednesday January 20th, 2010. There, they assumed the roles of doctors and discussed a patient’s symptoms. They applied their understandings of genetics to trace the ancestral lineage of the patient’s symptoms.Then, they explored the molecular basis of sickle cell anemia. Finally, they resulted at using gel electrophoresis as a diagnostic tool to differentiate sickle cell hemoglobin from normal hemoglobin. In the lab, students were given the opportunity to refine their micropippetting skills, their gel making skills, their sample loading skill etc…
