Math

The math department at TechBoston Academy teaches the following subjects according to grade:

Grade 10: Geometry Honors, Geometry, Algebra/Geometry
Grade 11: Algebra II/Trigonometry, Geometry/Algebra II
Grade 12: Business/Personal Finance, Applied Maths

Mr. William Barfus

Mr. Barfus joined TechBoston Academy for the 2005/06 school year. He has been with BPS for 7 years, teaching Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, MCAS Prep and Spanish. In addition to High School Mathematics, Barfus is certified in ESL and special education. He has an MBA from The Wharton School and did his graduate work in Special Education at UMass Boston.  He has lived in Mexico and Spain, and traveled worldwide.

Ms. Celeste Coleman

Ms. Coleman joined TechBoston Academy for the 2007/2008 school year.  She is teaching Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Algebra III.  She received a Masters in Education from UMass Boston through the Boston Teacher Residency program after majoring in Chemical Engineering at Princeton University. 

Mr. Justin Desai

Mr. Desai’s joined the TechBoston math department for the 2006/07 school year. In 2003, he received his BS in Economics from Boston College. Mr. Desai has worked in education for the last nine years at numerous organizations such as Citizen Schools, Lesley University, and as a private tutor. Mr. Desai teaches Geometry at TechBoston Academy.

Ms. Nisa Harrison

Ms. Harrison has lived in Boston for most of her life. She is a high school graduate of Boston Latin Academy, a Boston Public School. Additionally she is a proud alumna of Clark Atlanta University where she received her B.S. in Mathematics with a concentration in Engineering. A life changing experience compelled her to pursue teaching as her career. After moving back to Boston she received a M.A.T from Simmons College. Currently she is working on her Doctorate in Education. Ms. Harrison comes to TechBoston Academy with ten years of teaching experience in Mathematics.

Mr. Chimdi Uchendu

Mr. Uchendu joined TechBoston Academy for the 2007/08 school year. He came from another DEC school, the Academy of Public Service, where he taught math, grades 9 – 12. Mr. Uchendu graduated from Boston Latin School. He has a B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology. He has also received his M.Ed. in Education from University of Massachusetts – Boston.
