The history department at TechBoston Academy teaches the following subjects according to grade:

10th grade: American History I
11th grade:
World History II; Facing History- Latin America;
12th grade: Facing History and Ourselves; AP U.S. Government; and select yearly elective

Ms. Sandra Derstine

This is Ms. D’s has taught at TechBoston Academy since the 2005/06 school year. She teaches 11th grade US History II and AP United States Government and Politics.

Ms. Derstine comes to TBA by way of the non-profit world, where she worked in the social services/education fields in upstate New York, Washington, D.C. and, finally, Boston. Ms. D holds Bachelors degrees in Political Science and Policy Studies from Syracuse University, and a Masters degree in Secondary Education from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

Outside of school, Ms. D loves to spend time with her family, read, cook, watch movies, go to the beach, do yoga, and, of course, hang out with her dog, Tilly.

Mr. E has taught at TechBoston Academy since the 2002/03 school year. In 1996, he received a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Union College. His Bachelor of the Arts in History is from Skidmore College.

Mr. Brendan Malanga

Mr. Malanga joined TechBoston for the 2002/03 school year. He received a Bachelors of Science in History from Northeastern University. Mr. Malanga teaches US History II and Facing History and Ourselves.

Dr. Bruce Pontbriand

Dr. P came to TechBoston for the 2006/07 school year, but this is his nineteenth year in secondary education.

Most recently, Dr. P was the Vice Principal at Boston College High School from 2003 to 2005. Dr. P received his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Boston College in 2004. He received his M.A.T. from Harvard Universtiy and his B.A. from Holy Cross College. Dr. P teaches American History I.
