Curriculum

TechBoston Lower Academy has a curriculum that is rigorous, technology-focused, interdisciplinary and project-based. All students will be expected to meet Massachusetts grade level standards with the support and guidance of teachers that all content certified and dedicated to student success.

Science- This course is designed to continue the sequence of exploring yearly topics from earth, life, and physical sciences and technology/engineering design.

  • 6th grade – Topics covered: Weather and Water, Human Body Systems, Technology/Engineering Design.  Required Assessments/Products: Unit and End of Year Assessments, Science Notebook
  • 7th grade – Topics include: Diversity of Life, Force and Motion, Earth History, Technology/Engineering Design.  Required Assessments/Products: Unit and End of Year Assessments, Science Notebook 
  • 8th grade – Topics include: Chemical Interactions, Planetary Science, Populations and Ecosystems, Technology/Engineering Design. Required Assessments/ Products: Unit and End of Year Assessments, Grade 8 Science MCAS, Science Notebook

History- Curriculum is designed to ensure each lesson is robust, active, and memorable. The goal is for students will relish their time studying social studies and remember the content long after class is over.  To learn more about the curriculum visit: http://www.teachtci.com/programs/middle/

  • 6th grade – Ancient Civilizations of the Mediterranean.  Students will study: the origins of human beings in Africa through the Neolithic Age,  and the emergence and importance of the following civilizations: Mesopotamia, Egypt, Phoenicia, Ancient Israel, Ancient Greece, and Ancient Rome. Required Assessments/Products: History Notebook, BPS Mid and End-of-Course Assessments, BPS Ancient Civilizations Historical Thinking/Writing Tasks
  • 7th grade –  World Geography. Students will study the physical geography of the world outside of the United States and North America and its impact on the lives of people throughout the world.  The following concepts are at the heart of each section of the World Geography course: The World in Spatial Terms, Places and Regions, Physical Systems, Human Systems, Environment and Society, and The Uses of Geography.  Required Assessments/Products: Geography Notebook, World Geography Mapping Labs, World Geography Writing for Understanding Exercises, BPS Mid and End-of-Course Assessments.
  • 8th grade –  Civics.   The focus of the course is on: building students’ mastery of challenging subject matter in civics and government, preparing students for responsible citizenship; and involving students in civic action projects that promote and demonstrate good citizenship, community service, and personal responsibility. Required Assessments/Products: Civics in Action Notebook, BPS Mid and End-of-Course Assessments, Civic Action Projects, Debates, presentations, writing assignments, other products.
